Just over year ago, I finished the 11th book in the Skulduggery Pleasant series. As soon as I turned that last page, I was instantly excited for the next book regardless of how long I was going to have to wait for it to come out. Now that it’s out and have turned its last page, I can say without a doubt that the wait was well worth it.
I don’t know what made me feel any different than I did reading the first two phase two books, but reading Bedlam really made me feel like I was reading the main series again. I thoroughly enjoyed discovering the extent of Valkyrie’s power all over again, trying to figure out Abysinna’s plan and who was on what side, and the pages and pages of witty banter between Skulduggery and Valkyrie.
On top of being such an amazing read, the front cover is absolutely beautiful! The combination of light and dark reds and sections of bright white make it the most eye catching and best looking cover so far in my opinion.
When it was first announced, I was slightly sceptical about a second phase happening. I was pretty confident I was going to enjoy it, but I didn’t want it to potentially contradict what I thought to be a rather perfect ending in the form of book 9. Now that the phase is multiple books in, I am super excited to see where the coming books take us, and what further mischief Valkyrie and Skulduggery will get up to.
My rating: 10/10. It’s always been hard to find fault in any Skulduggery Pleasant book, and this was definitely NOT a situation in which I managed to do so.
Would I recommend this book to others? Definitely! You’d have to read the first two books in the phase first though. You wouldn’t necessarily have to read the first phase, although I would recommend you do so to make the most sense of books 10 and 11.
