When I first heard that an Aladdin live action adaptation was being made, I wasn’t exactly sure how to feel for two reasons; 1. It would destroy me on the inside should this adaptation turn not be as good as the original. 2. Will Smith was cast as the Genie. It’s not Will Smith being cast in general I have an issue with, he is an incredible actor and I’ve enjoyed all the roles I’ve seen him play. What I take issue with is him being cast in a role originally played by Robin Williams…
Robin Williams was the perfect choice to play the Genie. His energetic and charismatic nature made Genie one of the most memorable and beloved Disney characters to date. There isn’t a single person I could think of that would have done a better job. This being said, will I go see the movie? OF COURSE I WILL.
Weird Genie CGI aside, the trailer actually looks really good. Truly a “teaser trailer”, the trailer only gives us a glimpse into what the movie is going to be like. It is however enough to keep me excited. The outfits look stunning, the scenery CGI looks amazing and Friend Like Me playing in the background has me incredibly excited to hear the rest of the soundtrack. At this point, I have no reason to believe this won’t make me feel as excited as when I watched it for the first time as child.
